Claypots… yet again!
I think this is was my 6th visit to Claypots Seafood Bar in St Kilda in the two years I’ve known about the place. This time, I took my LifeGroup, to whom, since joining them in March this year, I’ve probably mentioned the place many, MANY times. The night was meant to be a LG social event, but I hijacked it for lack of other times we could go out for my birthday. I think this worked out okay though because it saved the effort of trying to organise something for the social and something for my birthday. Two birds!!
The night was scheduled to start at 5:30pm, where “the city group” was to meet for transport down to St Kilda. Unfortunately Steph decided to misread her watch and show up at 4:40pm. Twas rather odd, because she sent me a message at 4:30pm (that I read at about 4:35pm) apologising for being late because of unruly passengers delaying the train. My thoughts at that time were “Eh? That must be one heckuva delay if she’s going to be delayed an hour. What’d they do? Set fire to the train?”. Of course, this was followed up, much to my surprise with Steph showing up at the train station at 4:40pm and spoiling my plans catch up with some work folk. Oh well.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, we decided to annoy the staff there by changing the size of the group from 10 to 12 to 11, starting inside, moving outside and rearranging the furniture, then deciding it was too cold and potentially wet and moving back inside. On top of this, we arrived quite a bit before the scheduled 6:30pm meeting time with the rest of the group arriving a little bit after 6:30pm. Gah!
Due to the lateness of the other half of the group, we set about ordering for everyone. I went with what I thought would be some safe favourites of mine – Chilli Crabs, Calamari, Red Emperor and Barramundi. As it turns out, Limmi doesn’t really do seafood and Shaz, Steve & Vinna were all too lazy to eat crab. So out of 10 people five of us ate 6 crabs. Oh well, I wasn’t complaining! Anyway, the Calamari was brilliant! The softest, sweetest (and most whole) calamari that I’ve had… well… ever. And of course, the Red Emperor and Barramundi were brilliant.
Of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without Steph causing a scene when she started playing with the whole carcasses of the two fish. I could write something, but I think she summed it up better than I could.
Yummmmm….. getting hungry writing this.
Photos coming soon…
