Week off

December 5th, 2008 2 comments

Following last month’s 1,000km effort, I’ve pretty much taken a week off the bike. Aside from a couple of kilometres of pootling around yesterday, this week has been devoid of riding.

And you know what…

I feel pretty good.

I think that towards the end of November, where I was putting in big efforts to get myself over the line, I wasn’t getting good recovery. If the weather had been a bit friendlier mid-month, it probably wouldn’t have been such a frantic rush towards the end.

No matter.

I’m here now.

Feeling pretty well rested.

Problem is though. I appear to have lost my motivation to race. Weather, other events and getting home late from work has meant that I haven’t raced for a few weeks.

Now… I don’t really feel like it. Hopefully I can fire myself up a bit to get some races in before the end of the year.

I could do it if I wanted to

About halfway through the month of November and I’m about on target to complete 1000 km this month. The thing I’m starting to think about is, “Why exactly do I want to do this?”

It wasn’t really a goal of mine to achieve this and honestly, it wasn’t really that hard. In fact, I’ve achieved the halfway target of 500km in the first 15 days with only half of that distance done on my road bike. Honestly, the second half of the month is just a matter of finding the time to rack up the distance on whatever bike.

The one thing I have actually realised about this is that it’s actually quite fatiguing. What I’m feeling is deep down inside – I constantly feel like I need to sleep and eat and rest and eat.

So should I do it? Should I go for the 1000 km mark this month?
